In production on from 1945 to 1949, reference 4467 represents the beginning of one of the most recognized names in modern horology: the Rolex Datejust. Made in celebration of the brand’s 40th anniversary, the model would evolve into one of Rolex’s most iconic models of all time, today nicknamed “Ovettone” due to its likeness to an egg. An exceedingly rare timepiece, the first 100 examples were available only through a coupon found on the Genève newspaper “Tribune de Genève”. This particular yellow gold example has been preserved in good condition with its distinctive reeded bezel. The silvered matte dial with applied dagger numerals, sweep centre seconds, outer fifth of a second divisions combined with Arabic five minutes divisions doesn’t presents luminous accents nor hands. Technical necessities dictated by the presence of the rotor commanded quite a large case design for the time, which grants to the piece a gratifying massiveness, measuring 14 mm, making it in the course of history a cult favorite among collectors, representing an inedible landmark moment within Rolex’s history.
