Legendary timepiece, the reference 16 520 was the first chronograph of the Rolex manufacture to encompass an automatic movement derived from a Zenith ébauche. Built with a larger case than its predecessors and a sapphire-crystal glass, when launched in 1988, the watch garnered an immediate waiting list at Rolex retailers. Throughout the years, this model has become highly sought-after by collectors and today is probably the most recognizable example of the whole horological world. Of incredible importance, the present watch is not only part of this coveted reference but is distinguished by its prestigious heritage. Kept in an important collection for many years, the chronograph was cherished with care throughout the time with a very well preserved stainless steel case equipped with an Oyster bracelet and white dial. Moreover, the watch exemplifies the very famous relationship between Rolex and the American jeweler Tiffany & Co. With the signature displayed below the “Cosmograph” script, the timepiece, furthermore, shows the inverted 6 in the chronograph hour subsidiary dial, two incredibly important and appreciated details by collectors. To make clear the authenticity of this lot, it is also enriched with the original Tiffany’s warranty and box, plus a service. Last but not least, this very watch has been chosen by Pucci Papaleo in order to be insert in one of his colossal book, “Daytona Perpetual”, at page 162–163 and that is confirmed by the editor’s letter.
