With a depth rating of 610 meters, the Double Red Sea-Dweller ref. 1665 was the first commercially available Sea-Dweller, and the most coveted among collectors. Its official name is the Sea-Dweller Submariner 2000 and was given the nickname Double Red Sea-Dweller, or DRSD for short, due to the two rows of red text printed on the dial. The reference ran for an impressive ten years of production from 1967 – 1977 and featured five distinct dial variations. “Rolex patented Oyster Gas escape valve” is also visible on the case backs, exactly like the present lot. Its remarkable conditions make this specimen a very nice opportunity for every watch collector: the stainless steel case 39 mm wide is simply beautiful and the case back still shows the engravings in a very crisp way. The well preserved bezel is the representation of the iconicity with its black color and the graduated scale. The dial is incredibly beautiful, with its black matte color, the “double red” vivid inscription at 6 o’clock and the really charming ocher color of the indexes that matches perfectly with the Mercedes hands. The present Sea-Dweller ref. 1665 is a rare and collectible vintage Rolex offered in an attractive overall condition with still its original box and warranty.
