The here offered Gallet Flying Officer Chronograph is a rare and highly sought-after vintage timepiece, particularly in this special version created for the Swiss Army (Armée Suisse). This watch holds a unique place in horological history, as it was produced as a diplomatic gift for a Russian military delegation visiting Bern, Switzerland, in 1976. What sets this version apart is its combination of Swiss craftsmanship with Russian horological components, making it a true cross-cultural collaboration during the Cold War era. This particular model features a 12-hour bezel and a cities dial, allowing for the calculation of multiple time zones. The 37.5 mm stainless steel case, larger for its time, is robust and durable, while the brass bezel, steel winding crown, and pushers add a touch of rugged elegance. Inside, the watch is powered by the Russian Poljot calibre 3133 chronograph movement, one of the earliest uses, making this timepiece even more significant. The watch’s condition is exceptional, despite the unfortunate loss of its original case back, which was engraved with the Swiss military cross and contract numbers. The previous owner replaced it with a plexiglass case back, allowing a clear view of the intricate movement inside. Despite this modification, the watch remains a valuable and collectible piece due to its rarity, historical importance, and connection to both Swiss and Russian military history.
