The Tudor Reference 7928 stands as one of the most iconic vintage dive watches ever produced by Tudor, a brand known for its close association with Rolex. First introduced in 1959 as a successor to Reference 7922, the Tudor 7928 is part of the Submariner series, which shares many of the technical and aesthetic qualities of the Rolex Submariner but at a more accessible price point. One of the most notable aspects of the Tudor 7928 is its robust build and reliability, which earned it a place in military history, being utilized by the French Navy and other military diving units. A key feature of the Tudor 7928 is its use of Rolex-manufactured cases and crowns, ensuring the same durable and iconic profile seen in Rolex dive watches. Over time, this reference evolved through four generations of crown guards: the Mark I or “square” crown guards, Mark II or “Eagle Beak” crown guards, Mark III or “pointed” crown guards, and finally, the Mark IV rounded crown guards, which are present on this particular watch. Dating to circa 1967, this example has been carefully preserved, maintaining its original proportions with thick lugs and well-defined bevels. The dial is a classic example of Tudor’s dive watch design, featuring large, aged hour markers with a warm, creamy patina, along with the distinctive “Mercedes” hands. The legible and uncluttered layout is complemented by the iconic Tudor rose logo, Gothic typography, and the charming curved “Self-Winding” text.
