The Cartier Baignoire dates back to 1957 and its lines take inspiration from a watch that Louis Cartier gifted to the Russian Grand Duchess Pavlovna who is taught was one of the most important clients of the French brand. It is a well-executed manipulation of shape, proportion and size of one of the most elegant and refined timepieces ever produced by Cartier. In 1973 this model took officially name Baignoire Allongée and it was simply an oversized version of the normal one, produced in very limited numbers, in the London, New York and Paris boutiques of the brand. The present lot is an extremely precious example produced in white gold with a possibly unique dial. It has been preserved in very nice over all conditions: the iconic oval shape of the case is well proportioned and the sapphire cabochon is still intact. The dial has an unprecedented and never seen before grey dial with white roman numeral and signature with printed at 6 o’clock the name “London“ meaning that this very watch is one of the few that has been manufactured in the capital of United Kingdom in 1971, as confirmed by the certificate that accompains the watch.
