The Rolex Turn-O-Graph debuted in 1953 with the reference 6202, and the present lot is an example of the reference 6609, introduced in 1954, and in production until 1960 within the DateJust family. This new reference included many design changes from the original model including a cyclops date window at 3 o’clock, and a fine engine turned bezel with compressed markers every five minutes instead of every minute. This lot is really gorgeous with its three-body solid case with screwed-down case back and crown, bidirectional revolving reeded and graduated bezel all manufactured in 18k pink gold. Watches produced by Rolex in rose gold, during those years, were very few, making the watch very rare and sought after by collectors. The watch is even more fascinating since it is equipped with its pink-gold bracelet, and the dial also has a rare feature: the black lacquered color, which enhances its beauty by standing out in contrast with the color of the pink case. It also presents applied pink gold faceted dart indexes and luminous dots, aperture for the date and luminous pink-gold “alpha” hands.
