The Monaco was firstly launched in 1969 and was the first square-cased waterproof chronograph ever realized. As often happens, the success wasn’t that desired and Jack Heuer decided to create a new version of it when he saw on the wrist of the king of Spain a black watch. This lad to the creation of a very small run of black PVD Monaco in the mid 1970s which never entered in the Heuer catalogues. For this reason, the black PVD Heuer Monaco Reference 74033N (N for noir – black in French), and also nicknamed the “Dark Lord” by collectors, is a very rare watch to find. The present lot is a real lavish piece since has been preserved in incredibly nice conditions with still its original helmet box. The black PVD coating shows no evident signs of wear but to fascinate even more is the black dial with white time indication hands and bright orange hand for the chronograph function: it is almost untouched.
