Reference 565 was introduced to the public in 1938 until 1952 and was the first large watch with a waterproof case produced by Patek Philippe. The design of the two-body circular case with concave lugs and screw down back are a combination of the strong practicality, simple elegance and served as an inspiration for the creation of the reference 5565 in 2006 with its curved and rounded design. The present watch undoubtedly represents one of the most refined examples among the 565 known for its almost pristine steel case in excellent and almost unworn condition with cutting edges and absolutely no signs on the bend. The dial with superb mat silver finish, applied steel baton numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, outer perlage minute division and steel dauphine hands. This reference is undoubtedly one of the most famous timepieces of the ’40s and any enthusiast, collector or even curious on watch cannot remain indifferent to this preciousness. With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in Steel in 1945 and its subsequent sale on 1 March 1946. During a service in 1984, the original case was replaced by another without numbers.
