The production started for the reference 2422 started in 1946 and remained in production until approximately 1956, soon became really appreciated among watches’ aficionados for its particular shape. The present lot is the only platinum example currently known with Breguet numerals. A total of 15 other ref.2422 wristwatches are known with a platinum case, however, all of those feature either applied markers or diamond set numerals. The square shape of 28 × 28 mm case excluding lugs with snap on back has been realized in platinum, the lapidated lugs are very sturdy compared to the delicacy of the rest of the case and the crown as well is rather massive, but are the unusual stepped edges of the bezel to surprise us. In addition to this, they also fascinate the particular Breguet indexes applied inside a very clean silver dial with seconds at 6 o’clock. This watch is certainly the demonstration and represents the almost unique possibility of buying an absolutely exceptional watch. With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming the movement, case material, caliber, reference and the sale on 5th April 1948.
