In 1950 Jaeger LeCoultre launched for the first time its iconic collection of Memovox, the voice of memory, capable of sound an alarm to a fixed hour. 9 years later, with the growing popularity of devices for pilots an, most of all, divers, LeCoultre decided to go one step beyond and create an oversized, automatic waterproof divers' wristwatch with alarm. It was the 1959 when it was offered the Memovox Polaris: produced in around 1714, the resent reference E859 was produced for the American market as testified by the simplified “LeCoultre” signature instead of he full Jaeger-LeCoultre brand name for Europe. The esthetic of the present lot is absolutely stunning with the two bodies circular case in steel with curved lugs, inclined bezel and two symmetrical crowns at 2 and 4 o’clock for the setting of time and the disc of the alarm complication. On the back 16 holes for sound emission with patented Piquerez Compressor system triple back. All preserved in very nice and original conditions this lot is a precious example with a rare black dial with applied stainless steel baton indexes, revolving alarm disc in the center and luminous material, aperture for the date at 3 and steel luminous alpha hands.
