In its whole history, Rolex hardly ever embellished their chronograph models with precious stones. Yet, with the introduction of the automatic Daytona, the manufacture gradually incorporated elaborate Daytona designs to their line of production. In the last few years, the factory-set jeweled Rolex references have become the super-hot watches of choice for the international elite but precious stone-set Cosmograph are still the rarest of all modern production Daytona. The lot here offered is a strikingly lavish and one of the exceedingly few specimens of reference 116509 with pavè diamonds dial to appear in public to date. The incipit 116XXX means that the caliber used is the Rolex automatic 4130, unveiled in 2000 and the first in-house chronograph movement ever produced by the Maison. While the ending 509 means that this is the variant of Daytona manufactured with the 18k white-gold Oyster bracelet (116519 does have a leather strap). In superb overall condition with the bezel displaying a 400-kilometer tachymeter scale, the white-gold case is equipped with its scintillating pave diamond-set dial with black Roman numbers and three subsidiary counters. Furthermore sold with the original warranty, tags and booklets, this factory-set jeweled Daytona is absolutely one of the most sought-after, difficult to find and precious to appear at auction in recent years.
