In 1868, American engineer and watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones who had been a director of E. Howard & Co, in Boston, then America’s leading watchmaking company, founded the International Watch Company with the intention of combining Swiss craftsmanship with the modern engineering technology from the U.S. to manufacture watch movements and other watch parts for the American market. After more than 100 years, the titanium chronograph comes with some surprise as it was produced as a joint effort between IWC and Porsche Design. The reference P6612 here offered was a marvel of engineering when it was produced and IWC came up with a way to manipulate the metal into a sleek wristwatch that represented the Porsche Design brand perfectly. The present watch called Dashboard, coming in many variations, but what makes this one really stand out is the rare red dial. The dial has a beautiful deep red lacquered look with Arabic numerals, date between 4 and 5 o’clock and outside tachymeter scale in white and is like no other dial recently appeared at auction, and combined with the full aluminum and titanium case, together with the rubber dark strap, allows for a wonderful sporty and sophisticated look.
