The present specimens is a very rare Rolex representative of the reference 4731. Its case, manufactured in 18 kt yellow gold, comes directly from the 1940s and was manufactured by Sogno S.A. (Geneva) and was also used by Patek Philippe for its iconic ref. 2425, the so-called “Skater“. Apparently, only ten examples were produced by Rolex of this reference, making it an incredible rarity in the collector’s panorama. Its unusual shape is an absolute novelty in watches world. Produced in 18k yellow gold, the large lateral inclined mountings of this example represent something never seen before: the prolonged downturned lugs are the perfect ending of the watch and streamline the entire structure. The dial in its own way is special: the argentè background is incredibly well preserved, with applied baton and faceted indexes in yellow gold that match perfectly with the feuille hands in gold as well. At 6 o’clock is positioned the subsidiary dial for seconds and to act like a frame is located the black outer closed track for minutes. Great exponent of the Art Decò, this watch is an absolute peculiarity, both in terms of rarity and style, and a must for every collection of specially shaped watches.
