F. P. Journe, legally Montres Journe S.A., is a Swiss-French high-end watch Manufacture d’horlogerie founded in 1999 by François-Paul Journe. François-Paul Journe was born in Marseille in 1957: an unruly child, he was sent to a local technical college at the age of 14. He went on to graduate from the Paris watchmaking School in 1976. From the 1999 Journe focuses on complex precision chronometers like the present lot with a production of around 800 watches per year. This beautiful watch is a “Chronomètre à Résonance” with lots of compilations inside: two time zone, chronometer with resonance controlled twin independent movements, 40-hour power-reserve indication, one of the escapements is mounted on a small platform pivoting around the second wheel by means of rack and pinion to adjust the distance between both balances, in order to find the most efficient position for resonance synchronization. The crown at 4 synchronizes the second hands. The case is fully made in platinum with curved bezel and concave lugs, the transparent case back is secured by 6 screws, top and side crowns engine-turned in “cordes de Marseille” pattern and the dial is shown under a sapphire crystal. The dial is perfect with its matte grey color, twin guilloché white meantime dials with concentric radial Arabic numerals and minute rings, offset subsidiary guilloché seconds dials, power-reserve indication at 12 and blued steel Journe hands. This very rare wristwatch is accompanied by the F. P. Journe fitted box, its original warranty and the instruction manual.
