In 1978, Audemars Piguet marked a significant milestone in the evolution of the Royal Oak by introducing its first diamond-set models. The ladies’ Royal Oak Reference 8638, later modified to Model 8756, was the pioneering design to feature a bezel adorned with 80 diamonds. Building upon this, Audemars Piguet also produced a quartz-powered variant, reflecting the era’s preference for quartz movements due to their reliability and precision. The present example of the Royal Oak reference 6012BA, crafted in yellow gold, exemplifies this refined approach. The watch retains a solid case and bracelet, both preserved in excellent condition with clear and deep hallmarks and engravings. The standout feature of this model is its bezel, which is set with 48 brilliant-cut diamonds. These diamonds add a touch of luminosity and elevate the watch’s elegance. The champagne-colored mini-tapisserie dial complements the golden case and bezel beautifully, with 12 additional brilliant-cut diamonds enhancing the dial’s aesthetic continuity and luxury. This model’s design aligns with the high standards of Audemars Piguet’s craftsmanship, blending precious materials with sophisticated design. In light of the recent launch of the Mini Frosted Quartz Royal Oak, this vintage example represents a significant and collectible piece of Audemars Piguet’s history. Its combination of classic design, luxurious materials, and quartz precision makes it a noteworthy addition to any serious collection.
