The reference 6034, introduced to the international watch market in 1950, stands as a significant milestone in Rolex’s history, being only the second Oyster-cased chronograph manufactured by the brand in the early 1950s. This model was in production for just five years and marked the beginning of the highly coveted series of chronograph models with 6000 reference numbers, ultimately serving as the precursor to the legendary Daytona. The reference 6034 was typically available in stainless steel or 18k yellow gold, with a smaller series produced in 14k gold and even lower in pink. These watches often featured various dial configurations, making each example special. The model is distinguished by its smooth bezel, round chronograph buttons, and a screw-down case back, all contributing to its elegant yet sporty aesthetic. It was powered by the reliable manual-winding Valjoux 72 calibre and prominently featured the word “Antimagnetic” on the dial. The present example features a blue telemeter scale and a black tachymeter scale, both indicated in miles. This particular example remains in pleasing and original overall condition, with a superbly aged dial that has taken on a warm cream-toned hue, enhancing its vintage appeal. The steel case is highly attractive and well-preserved, showcasing nicely defined lugs, sharp edges on the bezel, crisp reference and serial numbers. The reference 6034 is a cherished piece among collectors and watch enthusiasts, symbolizing an important chapter in Rolex’s storied history.
