The Vacheron Constantin reference 4737 is a striking example of the brand’s bold and artistic design language from the mid-20th century. Introduced in the 1950’s, the watch’s slightly curved profile adds to its allure, making it a distinctive model that quickly became iconic among collectors. Over the past 70 years, the Cioccolatone has cemented its place as one of Vacheron Constantin’s most beloved designs. Produced with both manual and automatic movements, the reference 4737 offered variations featuring many complications. To this day, only 335 examples of this reference have been recorded, and just 62 pieces are known to have been cased in pink gold, making this particular pink gold model an incredibly rare and desirable collector’s piece. This example is distinguished by its well-preserved, sculptural case, crafted by the master case-maker Ponti Gennari (identified by key number 26 stamped on the inner caseback). The dial is stunning, featuring a raised enamel signature, elegant pink gold hour markers, and an exquisite two-tone guilloché decoration in a rhomboid pattern. Powered by the automatic calibre 477/1, this watch is equipped with the highly desirable central seconds feature, as opposed to the less appreciated decentered one, further enhancing its appeal. This highly collectible pink gold “Cioccolatone” is a perfect example of Vacheron Constantin’s ability to blend bold design with technical mastery.
