Vacheron Constantin’s chronographs from the first half of the 20th century are revered for their exquisite craftsmanship and timeless appeal. Among these, the reference 4072 stands out as one of the most popular and enduring models. Introduced in 1938 and produced until the early 1970s, the reference 4072 utilized three different 13″ ligne chronograph calibers: the V295 with a 45-minute counter, and the V492 and V434 with a 30-minute register. The present watch is equipped with the V434 caliber, and research suggests that approximately 250 examples were made in stainless steel, a material favored for its casual, recreational feel and enhanced durability during outdoor activities. This particular example distinguishes itself with square-shaped pushers, adding a unique touch to the reference 4072 series. The overall condition and aesthetic appeal of this timepiece are remarkable. The three-body case, featuring an inclined bezel and concave lugs, is very well preserved. The two-tone dial is exceptionally attractive, with the black paint of the inner telemeter and outer tachymetric scale, as well as the seconds track, remaining vivid. The applied baton and Arabic numerals in yellow gold on the dial provide a subtle yet elegant contrast, adding a touch of color to the watch’s overall design. Characterized by its understated and minimalist design, this Vacheron Constantin chronograph 4072 exudes a highly contemporary elegance and stands as an enchanting wristwatch.
