A tool watch par excellence, the Sea-Dweller was introduced in 1967, specifically designed for underwater divers requiring a watch capable of enduring deep dives. Boasting a depth rating of 610 meters, the Double Red Sea-Dweller ref. 1665 was the first commercially available model in the Sea-Dweller line and remains highly coveted by collectors. Officially named the Sea-Dweller Submariner 2000, it earned the nickname Double Red Sea-Dweller, due to the two lines of red text on the dial. Produced for a decade from 1967 to 1977, this reference is known for its five distinct dial variations. The phrase “Rolex patented Oyster Gas escape valve” is also visible on the case backs, as seen on this particular piece. Its excellent condition makes it a prime acquisition for any watch enthusiast: the 40 mm stainless steel case is in stunning shape, and the case back still displays its engravings with remarkable clarity. The dial is exceptionally beautiful, featuring a black matte finish, the vivid “double red” inscription at 6 o’clock, and the charming ocher-colored indexes that perfectly complement the Mercedes hands. Additionally, the case back is engraved with the name Asprey, as the Sultan’s early Rolex timepieces were exclusively available through this London-based retailer. Timepieces with his signature are highly sought after, marking them as some of the world’s most desirable collectibles. Inside the case back, the full serial number of the watch is also engraved, adding to its uniqueness and traceability.
