In 1969, Rolex made a notable advancement in its Daytona series with the introduction, two years later, of the references 6263 and 6265, marking a significant milestone in the Daytona collection. These models were the first in the Daytona series to feature the word “Oyster” on the dial and introduced innovative screw-down pushers. They housed the caliber 727, an evolution of the Valjoux caliber 72. The highlighted lot is an extremely rare reference 6265: the stainless steel case, complemented by a striking Oyster bracelet, showcases sharp lugs, a satin finish, and an overall state of preservation that is remarkable. The dial of this Rolex Daytona 6265 is exceptional. The “Big Red” Daytona inscription at the center of the dial adds a unique touch but it’s not finished yet. Considered as one of the rarest dial variants, the one here equipped is the so-called “Panna” dial. This type of dial was nicknamed by collectors “Panna” or “Cream” due to its warmer hue compared to the normal grey dial, which is due to the Soleil lacquer finish that was originally applied during the production process. The outstanding condition and distinctive features make examples like this highly coveted in the market, especially when accompanied by the original box and papers. This Rolex Daytona 6265 is a timeless and wearable symbol for those seeking an iconic Cosmograph Daytona with historical significance and rarity.
