The Mido Ocean Star reference 5907, part of the Ocean Star Series, was in production between 1961 and 1965 circa. Also known as the “Rainbow Diver” or “Powerwind 1000,” the Mido ref 5907 is best recognized for its vibrant “exotic” dial, featuring bright, colorful concentric rings that highlight decompression times for depths up to 149 feet. This watch boasts a monocoque case construction—a patented design by Bernard Taubert in June 1960—that improves water resistance by eliminating the need for a separate case back. Measuring 38 mm in diameter and 45 mm lug-to-lug, the watch features a bidirectional bezel with black paint for the numbers, marks, and dot. It is powered by the automatic Mido caliber 1137 OC, based on the AS 1717 movement, offering a 43-hour power reserve. The colorful dial is designed to prevent confusion during dives, with each concentric circle representing the necessary decompression period, completed by the black outer edge of the dial beyond the last light-blue ring. The white center circle and black background display depths at 12 o’clock. Inside the center concentric circle are numerals 3, 6, 9, and 12, with the applied “Mido” emblem just below the 12. The dial is completed with dauphine hour and pencil minute hands, both finished with luminous material. The example offered here is a truly appealing specimen of this iconic model, featuring a well-preserved case and, most notably, the colorful dial with all its distinct features in exceptional condition.
