The Rolex Day-Date series is renowned for its innovation and prestige, and among its most significant models is the reference 6511. This model, cased by Brevet in either yellow or rose gold, stands out for its exclusive red date wheel featuring the “DAY-DATE” text and the use of either dauphine or alpha hands. The Day-Date story began in 1955 with the introduction of references 6510 and 6511, which were groundbreaking as the first watches to display both the date and the day of the week spelled out fully. The watch presented here was manufactured in the early years of the Day-Date’s introduction, specifically in 1955. Its yellow-gold case remains as pristine as it was during that period, thanks to the meticulous care of its previous owner. The tonneau-shaped case with a screw-back and fluted bezel houses a precious champagne dial adorned with applied hour markers. Unlike many other Rolex Day-Date variations, this model does not feature luminous dots at the hour markers but is equipped with alpha hands and a English calendar. This legendary reference is exceptionally rare, as it was replaced within a year by the refs 661x series.
