The Danish name Jürgensen is synonymous with horological excellence, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship, precision, and innovation. Urban Jürgensen, a student of Breguet, Houriet, and Arnold, is celebrated as one of the greatest watchmakers of the 19th century. Establishing himself in Switzerland, he crafted timepieces for European monarchs, aristocrats, and influential figures. After his passing in 1830, his legacy was carried on by his sons, Louis Urban and Jules, with Jules continuing to create precision chronometers and complex watches under his own name in Switzerland. Jürgensen had many titles and honors, became watchmaker to the King of Denmark, was made a Knight of the Légion d’Honneur and Knight of the Royal Order of Dannebrog. Among the many remarkable creations of the Danish atelier of Jules Jürgensen, the timepiece offered here is particularly extraordinary. This rare and impressive tonneau-shaped wristwatch boasts the highly coveted 5 minute repeater complication. It’s case, strikingly large for its era, features intricate leaf-motif engravings and elegant black enamel detailing. On the side, at 9 o’clock, a sleek slide activates the 5 minute repeater, adding to its mechanical mastery. The silvered dial is designed for easy legibility, with bold black Arabic numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and blue sword-shaped hands. This watch is not only a remarkable piece of horological history but also a stunning demonstration of craftsmanship, making it a truly unmissable treasure for any serious collector.
