In 2012, Patek Philippe unveiled the reference 5204, a landmark introduction featuring the brand’s first fully in-house perpetual calendar split-seconds chronograph. Driven by the sophisticated caliber CHR 29-535 PS Q, this model marked a significant evolution from the legendary reference 5004, incorporating multiple refinements in both functionality and design. While the heritage of Patek’s perpetual calendar chronographs remains evident, the 5204 introduced a new level of legibility. The moon phase at 6 o’clock was inverted, positioned alongside day/night and leap year indicators, streamlining the dial’s layout for intuitive readability. Additionally, the date sub-registers no longer overlap the minute track, distinguishing it from its predecessor. Encased in a larger 40 mm pink gold case, this reference brought a modern interpretation of Patek Philippe’s most prestigious complication. Black dials have historically been rarer in Patek Philippe’s grand complication lineup, as most vintage models featured silvered dials. In contemporary watchmaking, however, black dials signify a bold departure from tradition, offering a refined yet striking aesthetic. This example, fitted with a hefty and luxurious pink gold bracelet, represents one of the most exclusive configurations, as this bracelet option was discontinued in 2022, further enhancing its desirability among collectors. Coming from the original owner, this 2017-dated reference 5204/1R-001 is preserved in outstanding, like new, condition and is accompanied by its original accessories, including the solid case back and setting pin. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of Patek Philippe’s most celebrated modern grand complications, a true collector’s timepiece that embodies technical mastery and timeless elegance.
