Before Cartier started to fully develop its in-house watchmaking capabilities, the brand collaborated with esteemed watchmakers and designers to bring its timepieces to life. A striking fusion of elegance and functionality, this Pasha Jour et Nuit exemplifies such an era of craftsmanship. Masterfully conceived by renowned independent watchmaker Svend Andersen, the “Day and Night” complication offers a captivating and unconventional approach to timekeeping. Conceived upon the private request of one of his clients, Andersen originally developed the movement in the late 1990s also featuring a minute repeater. He later refined and finalized the movement and supplied it to Cartier, which, like the present example, used it in its Pasha models. At its heart lies a distinctive jumping 24-hour display, where a single elongated hand, adorned with sun and moon motifs on opposite ends, elegantly tracks the transition between day and night. Unlike traditional timepieces, which use a sub-dial for seconds, Andersen’s ingenious design dedicates this space to minute tracking. The timepiece is further elevated by a pearl-white “Clous de Paris” guilloché dial, where meticulously applied hour markers and a distinguished Maison plaque create a striking sense of depth and refinement. The present example, cased in white gold and numbered 26 of a limited edition of 30 pieces, is truly a refined and elegant specimen from Cartier.
