The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 116 520, launched in 2000, is an emblematic model in the Daytona collection, marking a significant turning point in Rolex’s history. It was the first Daytona to be powered by the brand’s own in-house self-winding chronograph movement, the calibre 4130. With this new movement, Rolex not only ensured higher precision but also improved the overall reliability and ease of use. The reference was offered with both black and white dials, with the latter being particularly sought after for its timeless and versatile appeal. In 2016, Rolex upgraded its steel Daytona models by introducing a Cerachrom ceramic bezel, marking the end of the 116 520’s production. This makes the 116 520 a significant piece for collectors, as it represents the last steel Daytona to feature the classic steel bezel, which maintains the traditional aesthetic of earlier Daytona models. The present example, dating back to circa 2001, is in exceptional “new-old-stock” condition, presented with its original set of accessories, including the box and papers. It even retains the protective plastic and sticker on the back, which indicates the level of preservation. For collectors seeking a piece with all the iconic features of the Daytona, this example represents an opportunity to acquire a “new-old-stock” condition model that is destined to remain a classic for years to come.
