Adaptable, innovative, and dynamic, the Day-Date stands out as one of Rolex’s most diverse models. First launched in 1956, the Day-Date was the pioneering automatic wristwatch to feature both a date display at 3 o’clock and the day of the week spelled out in full at 12 o’clock—all while being waterproof and chronometer-certified. Designed as a refined yet practical dress watch, it became the timepiece of choice for some of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Crafted from precious metals, including yellow, rose, and white gold, as well as platinum, the Day-Date epitomized luxury and prestige from the very beginning. Offered in excellent overall condition, the present Rolex Day-Date reference 18 038 from circa 1987 bears a 9.8 million serial. Retaining strong proportions and thick lugs, it further showcases deep case back hallmarks and retains a case back sticker. Blue dials are considered among the most valued and desirable in the Rolex world. The light, rich blue dial on this example of the Day-Date is particularly striking, featuring applied yellow-gold baton indexes, hands, and gilt text that complement the case material.
