The square, a symbol of numerical perfection and rationality, has been explored in various fields from architecture to contemporary technology. Its captivating geometry led Rolex to create special pieces like the reference 3529. Launched in 1938 and produced until around 1942, it was the smallest wristwatch of its time and Rolex’s first square, water-resistant chronograph. Only 62 specimens combining stainless steel, yellow gold, and pink gold were made, making it extremely rare. This model features a circular tachometer scale on the dial, contrasting its sharp details like chronometric buttons, Roman numerals, and stick indexes. Typically, reference 3529’s dials are silvered with two engine-turned subsidiary dials, but some rare examples have a blue or red tachymeter scale. The present watch, in pink gold with a matching pink dial, is particularly appealing. The well-preserved case has clear engravings of the case number, reference, and crown logo. This timepiece exemplifies Rolex's early case design and construction, making it a coveted collector's item.
