The reference 2509 is also known as “Grande Calatrava Waterproof” and was launched in 1950 alongside its sister reference 2508. The two differ by having either subsidiary seconds or sweep seconds such as the present watch. Reference 2509 was produced until at least 1967 and not many examples have been produced in yellow gold such as the present specimen. This lot simply surprises for its preservation quality, conserved in beautiful condition with crisp hallmark to the side of the case. Inside the screw case back, covering the legendary 27 SC, there’s a metal dust cap to keep moisture and magnetism outside. The dial is very charismatic with an incredibly charming gold that has gained a wonderful patina turning to a copper color with squares and triangles applied indexes and outer minutes and seconds track. Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in yellow gold in 1953 and its subsequent sale on 7 September 1954.
