In the early 20th century the Art Deco movement has been associated with luxury, glamour, exuberance, and modernity. It was an international design movement impacting all walks of life, from architecture and furniture, to jewelry and timepieces. From this new conception of art Rolex took inspiration to create a totally new design for its creation: giving birth to one of the symbols of luxury during the Depression-era, the lot here offered is a totally groundbreaking specimen that represented the anticipation of the Prince. Made in stainless steel and yellow gold and preserved in fine conditions with a spreading oxidation, the modernistic, slender case consists of two parts: the curved stainless steel bottom with hooded lugs in gold and the superimposed, massive "snap on" bezel in steel that comes out to reveal a the movement. The strap is totally covered by the lugs and this last detail is what breaks the rule compared to almost all the other Prince that will follow and made the present watch a special piece. Moreover the two-tone champagne dial has a fine and elegant oblique quadripartition of great charm with black baton faceted indexes and the classical seconds at 6 o’clock.
