This particular watch, a rare Gübelin Shutter Watch reference 2466, showcases the creative spirit of that era and has been manufactured based on Verger Frère brevet of 1920’s. Beyond its creativity, Verger Frères has been a driving force of innovation, holding several patents in jewelry design and watchmaking during the “Années Folles”. He is one of only two Parisian houses to craft the famous "mystery clocks" while the interchangeable cabochon signet ring and the shutter watch (like the present watch) are perfect examples of the maison's technical ingenuity. The brevet for the shutter was later sold in 1929 to the Kreissler Company of New York and from that moment on, many brands like Vacheron used it for their creations. The present watch is crafted in yellow gold with a white-gold bezel, featuring elegant enamel Roman numerals that add a classical touch. Its most distinctive feature is the “shutter” mechanism, a unique design element that allows the dial to be concealed behind gold shutters. By turning the second crown, these shutters open to reveal the dial underneath. This Gübelin Shutter Watch, with Verger Frères brevet and its innovative complication and striking Art Deco design, is a remarkable example of early 20th-century watchmaking.
