The Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 4467, endearingly known as the “Ovettone” among collectors, holds a unique place in horological history as the world’s first self-winding chronometer wristwatch with a date window on the dial. Introduced in 1945 to celebrate Rolex’s 40th anniversary, this groundbreaking timepiece revolutionized the display of dates on wristwatches and set the foundation for one of Rolex’s most iconic designs. The reference 4467 marked the inception of the Datejust, a model that has remained a cornerstone of Rolex’s lineup for over sixty years. Although the “Datejust” name would only appear on the dial in the 1950s, the defining features of this legendary line were already present in this reference, establishing it as a significant milestone in Rolex’s legacy. This particular example of the reference 4467 is crafted in full 18k pink gold and is one of the earliest examples of this reference manufactured. It showcases a stunning reeded bezel, a screwed-down case back (where is further engraved the serial number) all preserved in remarkable original condition with a deep hallmark on the side of the band. The dial is elegantly designed with a cream-colored background, adorned with applied pink-gold dart and faceted baton indexes. This reference is a highly collectible piece due to its historical significance, exceptional craftsmanship and rarity.
