Asprey has a history of selling customized Rolex watches dating back to the 1970’s when the government of Oman ordered a series of customized ‘Omani’ dial Rolex watches as gifts for British SAS soldiers who helped to suppress the Dhofar Rebellion between 1970-1976. Later on in the years, this British jeweler and luxury goods house has partnered with Bamford Watch Department to create a capsule collection of customized Rolex watches with Bamford’s signature black PVD treatment. Bamford has taken a handful of Submariners, Milgausses, and Daytonas, given them the signature black PVD treatment, and detailed them in iconic Asprey purple. The present 116400 is numbered 3 of a limited edition of 50 pieces only and is one of the specimens of Milgauss that came out from this collaboration. The massive 40 mm three-body case, with screwed-down back and winding crown, has the iconic special anti-magnetic shield to cover the movement and the whole watch is basically untouched, capable of striking at a first glance for this unconventional combination of colors. The black PVD Oyster bracelet adapt to the whole composition where the total purple dial has applied purple baton indexes and steel border that recall the same tone of the hands for hour and the thunderbolt one for the seconds. The only white detail on the dial is the Asprey signature at 6 o’clock. The watch is presented with original crocodile Asprey box and papers.
