Cartier and platinum have a storied relationship that dates back to the early 20th century. Known for its rarity, durability, and lustrous sheen, platinum became a hallmark of Cartier’s creations, allowing the French brand to pioneer its use in fine jewelry and watchmaking. This innovation allowed for the creation of exquisite settings that highlighted the brilliance of diamonds and other gemstones, establishing Cartier as a leader in luxury and innovation. However, platinum wasn’t always paired with precious or hard stones by Cartier. In many of its timepieces, the cases were often left minimalist, sometimes focusing on detailed lugs. This is exemplified by the offered Ronde specimen. Manufactured in platinum, the stepped case, preserved in good condition, showcases elongated lugs that elegantly overlap the case. The back features well-preserved hallmarks and numbers. The dial, signed Cartier, is truly remarkable with its unusual guilloché configuration, presenting a hammered effect rarely seen in these timepieces. This special dial is further embellished with outer black enamelled Roman numerals. Inside, the watch houses a superb, manually wound movement made and signed by Audemars Piguet, reflecting the high standards of both brands. This Cartier Ronde in platinum, with its blend of minimalistic design and detailed craftsmanship, offers a glimpse into the luxurious and innovative spirit that has defined Cartier’s legacy in horology.
